I think a lot of people seem to forget that most people who have BPD also have other co-morbid disorders such as depression, anxiety, paranoia, eating disorders, insomnia, OCD, addictions (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.,)
So BPD isn't the whole story. As I've already said, it's a very complex disorder, and not one that anyone who hasn't had experience of, either personally or professionally, should comment on.

BPD is the most misunderstood mental health disorder. There is no medication for it and the 'professionals' don't know how to deal with it. It's the most dreaded disorder of all, and until more research is carried out, it will continue to be the most stigmatised disorder of them all.
I'm going to second this. My dissociation, paranioa, anxiety and other disorders is horrible with bpd. It's like someone put it in a mixing bowl turned it on high then poured a little bit out. "ok let's see what were cooking with today" "no, please dont. Just one normal day pleeease I beg you;-;"

Edit. I'm also going to say that its not the bpd that makes it so I don't talk to people. That would be my social anxiety and distrust (which does fall under bpd) so no it's not specifically the bpd but it definitely doesn't help

I'm assuming you meant "(which DOESN'T fall under bpd)"??

"Individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) have difficulty establishing stable, trusting relationships, and they fear abandonment from significant others. They're prone to feelings of betrayal and misplaced trust in others."

Nope I meant does. Unless you mean the social anxiety. That doesn't. Sorry if I worded it poorly.

I can actually agree with this. Sometimes I'm pulling my friend as close as I can and getting all jealous (it comes off as jealous and it kinda is buts it's also "don't talk to them you might leave") and whatnot but other times I'm pushing him away because I'm no good.

My previous definition of BPD was oversimplified.

Here is a definition of BPD per helpguide.org

People with borderline personality disorder (BPD) tend to have major difficulties with relationships, especially with those closest to them. Their wild mood swings, angry outbursts, chronic abandonment fears, and impulsive and irrational behaviors can leave loved ones feeling helpless, abused, and off balance.

I have both.
My bpd is more about fucked up attention seeking behaviours and self harm, or intense emotions caused by some remarks I perceived wrong
The bipolar is more like an extreme mood swing, either euphoric or depressed, that can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
Im rapid cycling so its hard to tell whats what sometimes, and together theyre a clusterfuck.

i dont want to over run the thread with a side topic so may i pm you about this?
Sure

Just wanted to pop back in after reading the whole thread to say this:

I dont fucking care about the 'professional's opinion about my disorder. They told me I made up my trauma for attention, I need to get myself together, and that I should really just commit suicide for good and stop wasting resources that could be used for people who need help.
I dont care for an opinion of a neurotypical who has never been in my head, just memorized a book and took a test on it and thinks hes Omniscient or something. They have no idea.

this was exactly my point when i walked into my therapists office and i told her that too. its nice that you can read a book but much like raising a child no 1 manual will help because everyones different. so im the boss and we're listening to me because only i know whats in my head.
Sorry, I'll delete it, I'm new to this forum. :ehh:
its ok  i just thought id let you know it wasnt me.:heart:

How dare you say that people with BPD manipulate people, who the fuck do you think you are with that assumption

Anyone can say shit it doesn't make it true
I think it was this one @I'm fragile . I don't know why it matters that we did lol, this person was just angry and I could relate to that anger. I don't see how it's a personal attack on someone to give it a like but whatever.

i think you need a new one. or maybe try helping yourself. at least thats what ive been doing because for a while my husband wasnt fond of me going to the therapist. he was scared theyd give me a bunch of medication. (of course now i kind of need that medication only to find out i cant take any of it :meh: )

I dont need a new one. I was abused by 'therapists' for years and repeatedly denied help because of my bipolar because they think Im 'too complex'.
I rather kill myself than go through being invalidated like that again.
Im not the perfect kind and perfect ammount of crazy for them to treat and it shows.
I dont want this 'help' anymore.

sometimes what one can interpret as a "personal attack" is more them having a bad day and misreading something. if someone isnt having a good mental day it can make sense why even small things can seem like its meant towards them. (not saying this is or isnt small, just including everything)

So I've sat back and watched this thread play out, and I think it simultaneously gives me an insight into BPD as well as people's ignorance.

From my minimal research, I have established that in some cases the perceived manipulation by BPD people, which has featured heavily in discussion on this thread, is a misunderstood behaviour.

That's not to say that some people with BPD aren't manipulative, obviously, but that the stereotype of BPD people being manipulative or devious may be inaccurate.

I feel that on this site of all sites we should be open to understanding and empathy, not judgement and bitching.
That works both ways, of course.

The thing is, some BPD's ARE manipulative, but not all. As I said earlier, it depends very much on the severity of the illness and what behaviours they have learned whilst growing up. The variations of this illness are immense and no two are the same.

Off topic:

He sent me some threatening messages - He wanted to meet me to sort me out - I don't think he was a very nice person.

I think better for everyone that someone like that isn't here to upset people and manipulate and use them.

That's all I'll be saying about it.

This part of your comment threw me a little off. Would you be willing to clarify what are the attributes and actions of a nice person?

I don't think a nice person threatens someone with calling the Police onto them, and also at the same time says where in the UK are you, I'd like to meet you - you aren't going to like me because (in essence) I'm going to smash you up.

I said why do you want to meet me? Do you think we might have a thing going on? Sorry dude I'm not into men.

And he basically made it clear he wanted to do me harm.

So I'd say that's not a very nice person.

Maybe I'm too sensitive, but when someone threatens to harm me, I can't think of them as a good person.

And the mods are more than welcome to look through my messages with him to know that is true.

I did tell him what I thought of him though, namely that he is a twat bucket.

I don't actually know what a twat bucket is, but it seemed an apt description to the way he was behaving.

ah yes, a majority lack of understanding and overall stigmatization of BPD. here of all places. and the general population then has the audacity to fail to comprehend why we attempt (and sometimes succeed) in suicide and further demonize and vilify us for simply trying to free ourselves of lifetimes of being ostracized, demeaned and blamed, treated lesser than, and being labeled 'difficult patients'.
no wonder I'm here.

Okay, I'm getting a clearer picture. A nice person as you define it is someone who refrains from making threats of physical harm and false police reports.

Now I'm thrown by another interpretation, that is, summarizing his words with "in essence" and "basically" rather than what he actually said...yet saying exactly what you said without summarizing. Would you be willing to quote his exact words and allow the reader to make their own summary?

I'm afraid I can't because a) that would probably be wrong in law and fairness since he can't reply to it, and b) the messages with him don't seem to be there any more so I can't actually access them anyway.

But paraphrasing pretty accurately it was something along the lines of : "Where in the UK are you, I want to meet you."

When I aksed why "have we got a thang going on?

" You aren't going to like meeting me very much, etc"

That kind of thing. Not very veiled threats.

He actually accused me of having something going on with mahakali, which is ludicrous, we're in different countries.

BPD is characterised by emotional instability, first and foremost; hence the new and updated diagnosis (Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder.)
Are BPD and EUPD different names for the same disorder?
I never knew that, I thought they were different conditions.

I was told once that BPD has it’s name because sufferers are on the borderline of psychosis - I think that’s what I was told.
I don’t remember who told me that though, there are all sorts of myths around various MH conditions.
