I've been told by various people that my voice/accent sounds like that of a pedophile or gay person...lol. That doesn't sound good. I'm a 21yr old black guy and not the most masculine but not feminine either.

Also what accent does it sound like?

I'm 25 and your voice sounds deeper than mine, I usually sound like a girl while I'm singing. I think your voice sounds cool

Omg you don’t sound effeminate at all!! You should hear my voice! You have a deep normal sounding male voice! I wish I sounded like you my voice is raspy, horrible and not deep at all. I have always suffered voice problems.

if I had to guess your accent is Canadian?

I can tell you're a guy, it does sound a bit camp to my ear though. Not that it's a bad thing in anyway, it's a calming and friendly sounding voice.

What do you mean camp? To be honest, I actually don't mind that.

What type of accent do you think I have?

Camp, a bit gay, but you can be camp and straight. David Walliams from Little Britain is a good example, he sounds camp in real life but he's hetro.

Being English myself, your accent just sounds middle America to me, I can't pick out regions unless they're really broad and obvious, like Texan. I can tell where someone is from in Britain though, I suppose it's what you're used to that trains your ear.

It may be camp but a nurse in a mental hospital thought it sounded posh. Don't know whether you agree. I don't know whether American accents can be posh.

I think anyone can sound posh if they have good diction and they're eloquent, you seem to be so I tend to agree with the nurse. Over here posh sounds like someone is eating plums lol. Like this

Here's my analysis, constructive criticism, and suggestions:

To my ear you sound Caucasian, and you articulate/enunciate extremely well, so I can see how someone thought you might be Canadian.

You don't sound gay. You sound like you are not confident. Let me try to explain. At the beginning of the recording, you ended a sentence with an upward inflection, like a question -- this is likely why people think you are gay, because it is an inflection more common with straight women and gay men. It also implies a lack of confidence in what you are saying, and/or in yourself. In general, I sensed a lack of confidence, not just because you were approaching a woman in whom you were interested and hadn't given you the signals that she returned your interest, but I get the impression that you have a hesitant approach and are unsure of yourself, and yet also try to convince so that your need or want will be met. I sense you have an oblique approach rather than trying directly to get your needs or wants met, which is a soft approach that is an unintentional way to manipulate agreement, rather than to confidently say, "This is what I want, do you agree?" It is a pendulum swing in the other direction from being commanding and demanding, rather than what's in the middle: confident, assertive, and having self-control without trying to figure out how to control another, that is, to get them to act how you want them to act or do what you want them to do, either passively/obliquely or aggressively. Not all manipulation is intended to be aggressive and do harm, I am not implying that you have such motivations or intentions, but it is a subtle cue that people pick up on and put their guard up against, perhaps subconsciously asking, if you're not being direct, then what is it that you really want? So I think that's where some people may get the pedophile vibe from. Does that make sense?

You have a great voice and diction, you can easily retrain your inflection. I would recommend researching YouTube videos for vocal/singing breathwork, inflection training, and also postural training/exercises. When your posture is stronger, it can influence yourself confidence, as well as your voice. You speak more in your head and nose than down in your throat and chest, diaphragmatic breathwork for singing can help with that as well.

I dont think pedo's have a particular sound OP lol, most gays ive known did not sound camp either. You sound fine. American accents are cool.
Did she go on a date with you? I'd be suspicious of a girl telling me she would go on a date with me in 3 years time lol.

No idea why someone would think you're gay based solely on your voice. I hear male, Caucasian, about 20-25. I'm picturing Harry Potter's long lost brother - Gary Potter. :pfff:
Ever so slightly, like 0.001% effeminate, yes, "learned effeminate", if it makes sense. Spent more time around females than males, and therefore picked up pieces from their speech pattern and form. Do you have a sister?

This is me. Diagnose me. :pfff:

Not at all, you sound like a younger (20s) Caucasian male actually. I’m an East Indian (Punjabi) woman and sound like a a teenage white girl so I feel you lol

This is so interesting hearing the voices behind the users! You sound Ukrainian, in your 30s? Our voices shift depending on who we’re talking to and the context Of a situation so I have numerous tones. Here’s me

I'm curious to know if you actually sent this message to someone non-ironically?

Very interesting thread. Are you reading a book extract OP? You sound like you should have a career in radio to be honest. Your voice is pretty relaxing to listen to, if I'm being honest, sounds generically American.
@Compodulator when you speak English you sound almost Dutch, but you can for sure hear your comfort level change when you begin with Russian. Doesn't sound as harsh as other accents from your area.

You don’t sound feminine at all, you don’t sound ‘gay’ or like a pedophile (Whoever said that latter one is clearly demented). I would never have guessed you were black from your accent though. You sound Caucasian. I’m wondering if it’s because of the book you’re reading? I don’t think you have anything to worry about with your accent.

Doesn't anyone else hate the sound of their own voice played back to them?:nomouth:
I don’t quite recognize my voice when heard. I like it much better in my head, more slick, assured, suave ...it doesn’t translate outside ffs. Give me back the commands lol
