I can't ever trust medical doctors, paramedics, police, therapists, etc. despite fairly good or neutral experiences with them. Maybe it's my prideful and independent personality. Maybe it's my trust and vulnerability issues. Maybe it's my fears of possible worst case scenarios. Or maybe it's all of them combined. But I can't get over it. I always get defensive with any of them. I always feel like I need to protect myself.

Anyone else feel the same way?

therapists for me are very hard to trust. doctors have to earn it, but that can (rarely) happen. being a white guy I don't run into police too often so I've gotten lucky there.

From where I am, not simply trusting people, but specifically having trust in anyone who represents an institution, makes you a victim. And it is not necessary to even be aware of that fact.

Yes, but it's for security.

I have bad experiences with many people, including here in SS.

Psychiatrists and cops i keep my distance. However, i prefer not to trust anyone in general. Trusting just got me into trouble.

I would say I really do not trust law enforcements or doctors of any kind for the same reason - Ignorance as well as arrogance on their behalf.
Maybe it's just the negative experiences I had, but lately, things have been getting out of control. On a very global scale.
Trust is not like a bag of candy that should be handed out. I wrote that to another person in here already and I am sure others may agree on it.
The most horrible thing however is that I am losing trust at times within my own blood - My parents.
Sometimes, some of their actions are questionable and when it comes down to my own security and well being - I would rather keep on the safety side then go ahead and follow through with their decisions and choices.

I don't trust medical doctors or psychiatrists AT ALL. I have numerous medical problems going back to childhood and I can honestly say that the majority of medical doctors I've dealt with over that time have either been total assholes or quacks or simply useless in terms of diagnosing or helping me, or a combination of the aforementioned. Psychiatrists too have either been arrogant assholes, or have only made my problems worse (i.e. prescribing benzos for too long even when I ASKED, REPEATEDLY, to taper off them but the psych just kept saying "well, let's discuss that next time" and a few times even increased my dosage though I never did increase despite him prescribing higher doses. I wish I could trust doctors more but it's too deeply ingrained in me now.

I wasn’t always this way, but now I distrust everyone. I’ve also learned that almost anyone can have my life in their hands. I particularly don’t trust police and therapists. I feel like I really should trust my PCP and lawyers, but even there I have my doubts.

I have a deep distrust of religious people who profess to know what is best for me. Fuck 'em!

I think that they use their so called moral superiority as a tool to get people to drop their guard so that they can take advantage of them.

The issue here may not be so much "do they have my life in their hands" as "are their interests aligned with mine". Several years ago I went down with appendicitis. By the time I got to a hospital I had only a few hours to live. My life was totally in the hands of the surgeon, and I trusted him completely. (Everyone said he was a good surgeon, and besides, I didn't really have any choice. I could hardly do the operation myself.) But our interests were aligned. He wanted to save his patient's life, and she wanted her life saved. For some of the other professionals you mention, especially the police, things are often different. If a cop is asking you questions, his aim may be to get you locked up. I don't trust people at all if I have any reason to suspect that they may be working against my interests.

Nah, I don’t distrust them. They are just people like me trying to do their job to the best of their abilities and moral compass. Some are good at it, some are so and so, and others suck.

I totally agree with you. I do not trust any of my doctors at all. Some seem to be so money hungry, others just go through the motions just to get me in and out as quickly as possible. Since my car crash, I do not trust any of them period. They need that new twin turbo sports car you know!

My life is in my bfs hands, I do not trust him. He told my social worker and support workers he would look after me. I guess he just didn't want the embarrassment of having a gf who as to have people come round and check on her. Plus mental illnesses don't exist so yeah. Don't trust police, whillst one of them were searching for me. He apparently was agreeing with my bf, that if I just got out and got a job I would be cured. Psychiatrists don't listen to me, family ha!

YES. The last person who hadn't hurt me for 20 years, whom I trusted complicitly, and never ever questioned did. Dropped me. "Put his foot down" and cut me off. I'm devastated. But I don't blame him. I blame me for not watching out for it. I've been so cautious and guarded for so so long. How could I not have expected this?

Of course, it happened. It had to. It's me. I should have prepared for it. I was so trusting and blind. At least he's the last one and there's no one else to trust in or hope for. He's better off. So many people are better off with me not a nuisance in their lives. It's all good. It just hurts more than I can face or comprehend.

I cut off an old friend. My patience with her simply ended. We used to do business together. In years she leaves in another country, so we meet few times a year. Last time she pushed the limit of my tolerance. She told me that she will fuck up someone, but that ended up as trying to fuck me up. Her big plan was to take as many pictures with me, even stream live from my car. I know she was drunk, but still this was all against me and it’s not that friendly. We are only old friends without any romantic/cheating stuff. But still she wanted in her head to piss my wife off, and me eventually. I won’t even bother speaking with her again.

I'm particularly scared of hospital doctors. Not because my life is in their hands...dying at their hands is not a concern. I was assaulted by a doctor in the Emergency department when I was 8,so without going into detail,I need to be literally at death's door before I'll go near the hospital.

I trust NOBODY period. My wife has cheated on me multple times. My brother and sister, after my parents died, took 100% of everything and I got nothing. Was in a very bad car crash, NOT MY FAULT, and that has been a mess with zero trust. I have myself and myself only and when I go home, hanging is the way, I leave nothing. Wish I was never born, my parents would not give me up for adoption becasue of social aspects, so my 1st 18 years on this planet was PURE HELL.
