(I apologise in advance for anyone who’s religious. I respect your opinion but this statement is DISGUSTING)

Anyone who says this shit can fuck right off. I’m so angry. I opened up to a family member (she’s young too, 29, and not religious) about the fact I’m going to kill myself, and was told not to do it because I’ll go to hell. That statement is so disgusting and anyone who’s ever said that shit to a suicidal person can go there themselves.

FIRST OF ALL god gave me this shit life. God allows me to continue to suffer every day. God knows I’m about to kill myself, and is doing nothing to stop me (by improving my life for example). God has the power to take my pain away but chooses not to. God knows I’m a good person and deserve to go to heaven. If he sends me to hell PURELY because I killed myself, he can fuck right off! He’s the one who should be in hell for letting children starve to death when he has the power to stop it! He’s passively killed more people than I ever will (1).

Secondly, if you say this to someone who is hopeless enough to be suicidal, to scare them out of it rather than showing them love and support, you’re a piece of shit and should be in hell yourself for being a piece of shit.

I dropped all the God nonsense as soon as I realized that no one truly has your back but yourself. Suffering will always be present in life. I’m sorry that you were given that response, it’s just a natural response as that’s what religious people were raised to believe.

Stephen Fry when asked why he doesn’t believe in God on national television. His simply answer: “bone cancer in children”. What kind of sadistic celestial overlord would allow that! Also if yr feeling bad enough to kill yrself - It’s unlikely the thought of Hell is gonna make much difference - nearly wrote ‘hell’ of a lot of difference (lol) also agree it’s a really cruel thing to say to anyone that feels this way-and no matter what anyone believes in-kindness and support would be a lot more helpful I would have thought.

It gets even worse. When I confronted her with logic rather than belief in a magic invisible man in the sky, she told me that the reason I suffer more than others is that I did bad things in a past life so god is making me pay for it in this life.
Apparently he’ll continue to reincarnate me into shit lives until I’m ‘pure’ enough to go to heaven. What the fuck kind of god is that? Isn’t he meant to forgive everything? God: ‘I forgive everything but I’m gonna reincarnate you into a starving child and make you suffer first. But I’m good, I swear!’

WTF? Who is this person?! Jesus- so do they then believe that every person suffering on earth did something bad in a past life?? If so that to me is a manifestation of a kind of mental illness or they themselves should be damned to an eternity in that fiery netherworld they so readily attest to!!

I am a Christian. I was welcomed into the Episcopal Church in May. Take what I say with love. I would like to apologize for the Christians who do not follow the teachings of Jesus: Love God will everything you have and to love your neighbors as yourself. Do not judge. Be kind. Do unto others as they would do unto you.

1. There is no Hell or purgatory. If God is Love, then no Love could ever justify these places.

2. God does not micromanage.

3. God is perfect, but the products of evolution is not.

4. Too many people love authoritarianism. Just about all Holy people (you might know one or three) try to bring us to a place where thinking for yourself, learning, sharing knowledge, and most importantly, to love without exceptions are the priorities; not forcing people to suffer.

I understand your anger and you have every right to be angry. I hope that your niece apologizes. For what it's worth, I'll keep you in my prayers and I hope positive energy comes your way.

Peace be with all of you.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a ridiculous, problematic mindset. Imagine looking at someone who’s suffering and saying ‘they were bad in a past life so god is punishing them’? If god is like that, I’m more inclined to think he’s evil than good.

Same goes for condemning good people to an eternity in hell, just because they killed themselves. God has the power to take my pain away. He chooses not to. So I kill myself, and he condemns me to hell. Something doesn’t add up there!

Spiraling into the abyss.
George Carlin had a good bit, back in the 90's in regards to religion. Should give it a watch, he goes into decent detail on how screwed up it is that some guy on a cloud, that's all knowing and all loving, has no issues in making those he loves suffer. Oh and he/she needs money, for some funny reason. Creator of all, but money was apparently a tough nut to crack.

Yeah imagine going to a third world country and telling that to the hundreds of people starving to death, or to all the young children that have been abused or people in crippling pain in hospital etc. So do they really believe that those millions of people all deserved it-jeez they’d be a great friend to have if you got ill or had an accident! Truly awful person

It’s SUCH a good and funny sketch- but as well as being hilarious it is so logical too.

Thank you for your lovely comment  I wish more religious people were like you. It would make no sense for a loving god to condemn people to hell for eternity, let alone good people. The ridiculous statement she made isn’t going to stop me from going ahead with it, but it has messed with my head a bit. What a cruel thing to say to someone who’s already suffering

Genuine question. If god created the world - did he not thereby essentially trigger the whole of evolution?- he turned on that switch so to speak- if he had the capacity to create the entire world, universe and all that is in it- was he not able to intervene - if evolution started to ‘go wrong’ or become ‘imperfect?’ Or who took over and made it go wrong,Man? Did he not also create man?

Yes, that man is what made me start to notice and question things, even at a younger age (was in my teens when I started watching him). World became pretty empty without his logic, for me at least. He had quite a few very valid points on many subjects.

Satan, in the form of a serpent, tempted Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. Then Eve tempted Adam to do the same. God had ordered them not to eat from the tree and they could live in paradise forever. They disobeyed him and followed the serpent's advice instead, so God cast them out of the garden. I agree with your point though. God created Adam & Eve, according to the Bible, so if they were imperfect, he must've created them that way. But their answer to that is: God gave us free will.
No matter where you turn, it always comes back to it being your fault.
That's religion for you.

If hell is real (I don't believe it is, I believe earth is hell) then we are all going there anyways, suicide or not we are all sinners. "Let he without sin cast the first stone" or whatever it is. Yeah, point is, fuck people that say that. I understand, maybe they are trying to scare you out of it, but, I dont believe it anymore.

" I opened up to a family member (she’s young too, 29, and not religious) about the fact I’m going to kill myself, and was told not to do it because I’ll go to hell."

Literally the exact same thing happened to me. A few months ago my depression was extremely exacerbated by my mom and I was having sort of an ongoing crisis. I called my grandma because she is the only person who I thought I could trust and confessed how truly awful I felt. All she said was don't kill myself because I'll go to hell. I'm not particularly religious but somehow I felt freaked out and guilty.

I also felt like such a clown. I allowed myself to be vulnerable and open in hopes she could maybe help me in some way be instead was immediately scrutinized and ignored. As always.

The statement is really only held at face value because even if that is true who's to say I'm not going to hell even if I don't commit suicide? Lol.

These are questions I asked myself a lot until I realized that I was putting human limitations on God. I came to this conclusion by reading about quantum physics (for laypeople). We will never have a comprehensive and complete understanding of our universe because there is so much to learn! How cool is that!

We are finite creatures trying to label and define the infinite. There is absolutely no way we can truly understand what infinity is with our brains that are made from materials that are in a constant state of decay.

This is why I have no problem with most beliefs so long as these beliefs encourage others to be kind.

I believe that when we die we are reunited with Infinity/God. We will know all and we will know and be loved.

Please let me know if I didn't answer your question.

This person is talking about Mediaeval Christian theology.
At first.
Then they inject Buddhist reincarnation into the discussion!
You can’t be roasting in alleged Christian hell after previously being a Buddhist “reincarnated” person.
Her Catechism and her Yoga classes are in a duel, and she is trying to victimize you.

I dont think it remotely even addresses my questions in a direct way-but thats ok-you are of course entitled to have yr faith/ belief-without having to answer any questions at all! was just curious. Though i have to say the bit about beliefs encourging others to be kind is sadly hugggggeeelly problematic. And pretty far off the mark i would say.

Then when the people that say those things are suffering, repeat word by word what they said to you. If they break a bone tell them "You must have been evil in a past life. No, I can't give you a ride to the doctor's office. You must beg for forgiveness and repent." The same if they lose a job, need to borrow money, any kind of suffering. Give it back to them.

Very small trap
It's not hell per se, but a friend has been sending me this buddhist guru's bletherings. His position seems to be that it is evil to peacefully off yourself because you're suffering, but a-OK to burn yourself to make a political statement.

I cannot possibly express how much I despise his lack of moral compass. Also the buddhist aspiration for lack of libido: The rest of us do not respect your aspiration to rise above everything in this life. For me, it is the biggest 'sin' to scorn the desires and pleasures of life. Fucktards.

MeltingHeart - I'm sorry I didn't answer your question. My reading comprehension isn't the best.

I reread your question and I'm not sure what your asking. Are you asking where the world went wrong with diseases or where the world went wrong with good and evil?

Thank you for your patience. I have mild, complex traumatic brain injury and communicating in writing is difficult for me.

I like some aspects of buddhism-but i think you have a very good point here-like, why reject all the good things in life and the pleasures that we as humans have the capacity and privilege to enjoy whilst on this earth-especially if you have full physical and mental health-and so many others are not able to carry out any of their desires or have any pleasures-kinda disrepectful to those people in some way...

I agree with everything you've said. I think we all really know there is no God or else this world wouldn't be the shit hole that it is and no one would be suffering. Yeah people use that line a lot to scare others out of taking their lives. You can't talk to people who are happy when it comes to suicide because they'll never understand.

OMFG, this annoys me so damned much. I’m an Atheist, so obviously don’t believe in any kind of afterlife. But I have been told by my religious relatives when they found out after some of my attempts, that not only was I extremely stupid and selfish, but that I’d go to hell. I didn’t ask to be put on this shithole of a planet. I didn’t ask for the things that have happened to me. If their god existed, he could have stopped it, the same as he could take my chronic illnesses and pain away. I didn’t have any sway in how fucked up our world is. I think we should have the right to end our lives how and when we want, with dignity, and without the judgment of others. ESPECIALLY when it says in the religious books that the only one who can judge a person is their god. Their hypocrisy and cherry-picking astonishes me.
